Jet ski Comino: the 1-hour safari with Salvu

I have been guiding jet ski safaris around Comino since the year Joyride opened. I know the line through every cove. I know which caves you can enter at which tide. And I know where the light hits the water at 10am so the photos look the way you imagined them when you booked.

Here is what the safari actually is.

The route

We leave from Hondoq Bay and head north. First stop is San Niklaw Bay on the west side of Comino. Then we round the corner into Santa Marija Bay, where I park the jet skis and we swim into a tunnel that comes out the other side of the cliff. From there it is the Crystal Lagoon, then a slow pass through the Blue Lagoon, then Elephant Rock, then home.

The whole loop is one hour. We move at speed in the open water and we slow right down inside the bays so you can see the bottom.

What you actually need to know

• Riders must be 21 or older
• Maximum weight per jet ski is 110 kg, this is a hard rule we check at the dock
• You must be able to swim
• Solo or pair, your choice. Solo is faster, pair is steadier
• Fuel and life jacket are included in the price you booked

The photos

I carry a camera in a dry bag. I take photos at every stop and I send them to you on WhatsApp the same evening. No charge, no upsell, no watermark. They are your photos. The reason I do it is that nobody on a guided safari should have to choose between riding and remembering.

Why we are five minutes away

Every other guided safari in the Maltese archipelago starts from Cirkewwa on the Malta side, twenty-five minutes from Comino. By the time they arrive, half the hour is gone. We start from Hondoq Bay on the Gozo side, five minutes from the first cave. That is the difference between a safari and a transfer.
